90s icon Sonique promised to channel her roots at Glastonbury 2024 after her hit song It Feels So Good ‘obliterated’ her DJ career.
The 59-year-old singer released the dance track in 1998 and topped the UK charts for three weeks, launching her as a bonafide star.
She would go on to win a Brit Award in 2001 for British female solo artist as well as a winning an Ivor Novello award and gaining other nominations for It Feels So Good.
However, Sonique has revealed to Metro.co.uk that she wants to celebrate the DJ life torn from her by chart fame with her set at Glastonbury.

Sonique shared: ‘As much as It Feels So Good was successful and still is, it was so powerful it just obliterated my DJing career when I was really doing well.
‘Because It Feels So Good was so big, that flew out the door. So I kind of want to go back to that time.’
She’s playing on the Lonely Hearts Club stage as part of Thursday’s line-up and promised to bring ’90s vibes’ to the UK’s biggest festival.
‘I want to give that back to the people, that time. There’s this sort of a 90s vibe going on right now and I’m going to tell you there is nobody I know that has got more 90s records and vinyls than me.’
Describing herself – and late friend Dario G – as ‘geeks in fancy clothing’, the Sky singer estimated she owns around 10,000 vinyls.
Laughing, Sonique shared: ‘I’m trying to find one, it’s so annoying because I found it during the lockdown. I’m determined to find this one record so I can digitalize it and play it.’
At the time of the chat, the dance icon had searched through approximately 3,000 of her records in hopes of finding it before Glastonbury as a treat for fans.
She explained that lots of her early music consisted of ‘special mixes’ which simply don’t exist outside of her vinyl collection.
‘Everything’s familiar though,’ Sonique assured us. ‘They’ll know the songs, I’m not gonna hurt them too much and go too left field.
‘I’m just gonna keep it nice light and happy but non-commercial. Organic.’
Sonique has spent much of her career working as a DJ, touring the world at a variety of festivals and shows – including some rather unhinged residencies.
‘I’ve seen some real crazy things. Well, they tried to get me to look at it but I’m a bit of a prude,’ she revealed.
One wild story includes her providing the music for a sex show abroad, which she absolutely refused to look at.
‘You would never get me looking at this show and they used to make jokes about it,’ Sonique recalled. ‘They were like, “What can we do to actually get Sonique to look at this?”
‘I said; “There is absolutely nothing you can do, that would ever make me look.”‘
Another DJ set saw two women pole dancing naked either side of her, which she politely described as ‘interesting’.
She said it was simply part of the culture in some underground scenes, particularly around Eastern Europe but despite embracing the chaos, she just couldn’t look.
‘They were enjoying themselves and I’m cringing inside like you can’t imagine just curdling inside. But it’s part of that business – it can go a little bit left field.’
Metro jokingly asks if she’s planning to bring any of this to her Glastonbury set, but Sonique laughs.
‘No, not at all,’ the legend chuckled. ‘Maybe in about 30 years the way things are going on because they show a lot more skin now than I did in my time.’
Usually Glastonbury weekend falls on Sonique’s birthday so she’s never been before but is ‘nervous and excited’ to play for the first time.
She grinned as she said: ‘I’ve never, never, ever actually dreamt that I would do it, especially at this age. Better late than never. I’m just really happy about it.’
